Weather and climate

South Africa has a subtropical climate. It is surrounded on three sides by ocean. The interior plateau is responsible for the warm temperate climatic condition. It is moderately dry country with annual rainfall of about 464mm.

Since South Africa lies in the southern hemisphere its seasons are opposite to those of North America and Europe.

The four seasons are as follows:

  • Summer ­ Mid October to mid February
  • Autumn ­ mid of February to April
  • Winter ­ May to July
  • Spring ­ August to Mid-October
