Mbombela Stadium
Mbombela stadium is a new stadium built for the world cup 2010 in the Mbombela city. It is just 7km from the center of the city and is 12km from the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport. The stadium is built outside the Nelspruit city and about 330km east of Johannesburg.
Mbombela stadium is the first international stadium to be built in the Mpumalanga province. The stadium design was developed by the South African architects with a theme which specifies the giraffe shaped roof support and zebra style seating’s.
The construction for the stadium began in 2007 February and is planned to complete in 2009 to hold the first round matches. The cost estimation is about R920 million and has a capacity of about 40,000.
The stadium is planned to be built in the round and rectangular shape so that the seats have a good view of the field. The stadium also has a four park and ride sites. In addition 100 buses will be operated on the match days.
