Today a very special historic meeting was held by the FIFA executive members in Robben islands located in Cape Town. This is the place where Nelson Mandela was prisoner for 18 years at the time of apartheid. This is the place where FIFA recognized Makana Football Association as an honorary member of the association in 2007. Tokyo Sexwale started with meeting with an inspirational speech who is now a FIFA committee member and a former prisoner in the Robben Islands.
The committee has now approved the increase in the prize money for FIFA world cup 2010. The money has been increased from USD 261.4 million to USD 420 million. The amount has been spited like the winner will get USD 30 million and the runner up will get USD 24 million, while the semi finalist will get USD 20 million, quarter finalist will get USD 18 million, and finally the teams that will reach the round 16 level will get USD 8 million each.
Additionally the teams that are qualified for the world cup will get USD 1 million dollars each. And USD 40 million will be provided by FIFA through the committee members to the clubs whose members will take part in the world cup 2010 as a contribution.
In agreeing to the recommendation of the Olympic football working groups the committee members have agreed to keep the existing system.
At last the FIFA committee members received a report from all the competitions and standard meetings from the last meeting that was held on 29th September 2009.
The next meeting was planned to be held on 18th and 19th March 2010 in Zurich.
